The readout
The map. Each dot is one of 1,000 regions in a
standard atlas of the brain's surface. A dot brightens in its system's color
when that region runs harder than normal, dims to slate when quieter. Dark gray
regions are below our accuracy floor and never reported.
The numbers. 0 is that region's normal level during
ordinary film viewing. +1 is noticeably above normal, +2 is rare. A few tenths
either way is noise.
Accuracy (r). Every signal is validated against real
brain recordings; its r score (0 to 1) says how closely predictions matched.
Sound is our best at 0.38; anything below 0.15 is not shown. Everything in

At this frame
each signal's predicted level at this frame, in the
model's own units. Anatomy is schematic; placement approximate.
The whole film
Why this section exists. Moments matter, but so does
the shape of the whole film. Each signal is summarized here as its film average
and its arc across four quarters.
Story only lives here. Sight, Sound and Attention
respond within seconds, so they also have the moment-by-moment view above.
The story system integrates a narrative over minutes: its value at any instant
reflects everything that came before, so it is only read at this scale
(Hasson et al. 2008, J Neurosci).
Supplementary
The table: each network's mean predicted response over the whole film
(arithmetic mean over its regions and frames), and its fidelity r: how well the
model predicts that network's true response, measured on a held-out person
watching held-out video, the same condition your ad is in. Gray fidelity values
mean weaker evidence. The chart: the same data as the brain map,
summarized as each network's mean over time. The download: the raw model
output this page is drawn from, one row per reported region, one column per
prediction frame, values in z.
| Network | Characterized in literature as | response | z | fidelity r |

Regions below our fidelity floor (r 0.15 held-out) are excluded and drawn
permanently gray on the map: motor and touch cortex (0.09), the weakly
predicted remainder of the default-mode network (0.14), frontoparietal control
(0.14), salience (0.12), limbic (0.07); 574 of the 1,000 regions in all. We
report the 426 we can stand behind. The full method, fidelity, ceiling and
